WHO IS STEVEN ATWOOD
Steven Atwood has spent his life at the intersection of two worlds that don’t always talk to each other — the world of high-stakes systems and emerging technology, and the world of story. As a U.S. Army infantry officer, he learned what it means to lead people through impossible situations. As a Department of Defense program manager, he spent years working with the kind of future technology that most people only read about in science fiction. He’s been on both sides of that line — and the view from the inside changed everything about how he writes.
His love of storytelling began with Terry Brooks and Margaret Weis — two authors who proved that the most powerful worlds are the ones built around deeply human choices. He carried that lesson with him through a military career, through years of working with technologies that blur the line between tool and weapon, and eventually to the desk where he started writing his own stories.
The result is a body of work that spans military sci-fi, space opera, sci-fi thrillers, and epic fantasy — five published novels and counting. Each one is grounded in a simple belief: that technology is never neutral, that people are never purely good or evil, and that the most honest stories are the ones where every character is making the best of a bad set of choices.
When he’s not writing, Steven can be found on his hobby farm in northern Florida, where life moves at a different pace — tending the land, reading widely, and staying deeply rooted in his local church community. It’s a life that looks nothing like the galactic battlefields and ancient kingdoms in his books, and everything like the grounding that makes those books possible.
