S. David Atwood

Catholic Mythical Fantasy & Thriller Author

Author Bio (Full)

S. David Atwood is a Catholic author of supernatural mythic fantasy whose work blends prophecy, spiritual warfare, and the quiet pressure of grace. A convert to the Catholic faith in 2012 while serving in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss, Texas, he has remained an active practicing Catholic ever since. He has been a Knight of Columbus since 2013 and earned his 4th Degree in 2026. His devotional life includes the Rosary and the study of traditional sources such as the Catechism of the Council of Trent, the Denzinger, and the writings of the Church Fathers. Drawing from military experience, disciplined prayer, and a deep love for Catholic tradition, he writes stories shaped by the unseen world and the mysteries that move beneath it.

The Rift Protocol (Working Series Title)

The Vatican has a protocol for miracles. It was never meant to be used.

The Rift Protocol series is a Catholic mythic fantasy thriller about a world where the veil between the natural and supernatural begins to tear — and the institutions meant to guard the truth scramble to contain the breach. When a priest returns from death bearing impossible signs, the first measurable rupture in the veil appears, triggering a covert Vatican response known as the Protocol.

As surge‑patterns intensify, relics awaken, and witnesses emerge, the Protocol races to suppress evidence of the Rift — a metaphysical fracture that exposes souls, distorts reality, and threatens to reveal the unseen order. Drawn into this conflict are a resurrected priest struggling with the mystery of his return, a reluctant witness carrying forbidden proof, and investigators who must choose between obedience and truth.

Rooted in Catholic tradition and informed by the author’s own conversion, devotional life, and study of the Church’s ancient sources, The Rift Protocol explores prophecy, spiritual warfare, institutional silence, and the cost of illumination — the moment when grace forces the truth into the open. It is a saga of resurrection, discernment, and the battle for the human heart in an age that has forgotten the supernatural.

Book One – Witness

When a Catholic priest returns from death with no medical explanation, the world barely notices. The Vatican does.

Father Declan O’Rourke wakes in a field hospital after being clinically dead for twelve minutes—yet he carries no brain damage, no trauma, and no memory of what happened. What he does carry is impossible: a mark that should not exist, a fragment of prophecy he should not know, and a witness who saw something no one should ever see.

Within hours, a covert Vatican unit known only as the Protocol activates. Their mission is simple: contain miracles. Their fear is simpler: this one wasn’t a miracle.

As Declan struggles to understand his resurrection, strange surge‑patterns ripple across the world. Relics resonate. Old prophecies fracture. And the veil between the natural and supernatural begins to tear—revealing a Rift that exposes souls, distorts reality, and threatens to unveil the unseen order the Church has guarded for centuries.

Hunted by forces that want him silenced and protected by investigators who aren’t sure whether he’s a threat or a sign, Declan must confront the truth of his return. Because whatever brought him back is still moving—and the first rupture is only the beginning.

The Rift Protocol is a Catholic mythic fantasy thriller exploring resurrection, spiritual warfare, institutional silence, and the cost of illumination—the moment when grace forces the truth into the open.
